Well done and thanks very much for this. I have a problem though, In the previous Pike and Shot I could fight a battle or two and call it a day. Now I feel I have to take one more turn, and again, and again. I am really enjoying it, the next thing must be Campaign for multiplayer?

I purchased Campaigns last night before retiring to bed, and started a campaign this morning before work. It is well done, and I too hope that a MP version is available for purchase sometime next year.

Also taken the plunge and bought today. Knew from working on the beta that it was going to be good and not disappointed. Well done guys. Really generous discounts too for existing pike and shot users. Guess those of us in the modding business owe you some extra work on the game to say thank you.

All the best
Ian

Well everyone benefits, so the more scenarios/mods the better.

I especially like that there is a variety of topographies, based of the province, and battle types. It get's boring just playing Agricultural/Open Battles all of the time.

I am really enjoying P&S Campaigns, this is a fantastic update to the game, congratulations to the team.

Just wondering if it is possible for modders to create their own historical campaigns with accurate maps and forces. It would be great to be able to add to the 3 historical campaigns now available.

Yes absolutely great job and thank you for the nice discount.

Keep making this game awesome and venture into the ancient realm for the next one. Keep realism as #1 as best you can.

Not currently, but they will be (along with a lot of other armies from the latter half of the 17th century) after the next (free) update.

I see that the Great Turkish War campaign adds new army lists that are later than the periods covered so far: Ottoman Turkish 1649 - 1698 and Imperial Austrian 1675 - 1690 (I didn't look at the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but that must be new as well). They seem to be available only in this specific campaign, as I cannot find them in any of the Skirmish army lists or the ad hoc Pike and Shot Campaign.

I also just noticed a new Skirmish group of army lists called Age of Machiavelli, which seems to be a superset of the Italian Wars lists but covering all of Europe up to 1559 AD.

Pike and Shot was already my favourite game from the last five years and with Campaigns it just got even better.

Unfortunately I have had to go on holiday with the family for a week so my Danes have not quite hounded the Turks off the map yet.

It's only a matter of time though.

Thank you so much. The splendid just became sublime.

I was told that the map making process is very difficult.

Not so much difficult as a little arcane. It requires RGB and alpha channel manipulation. But nothing that brave modders couldn't get to grips with! ;)

Cheers

It is a good sign of the competitiveness of the campaign system when I lost my first campaign (ECW) on the Sgt Maj Gen level. I won 2/3 of the battles but the AI was spectacular at besieging the towns in my regions. On one turn they converted three!

I really enjoy historical campaigns at the level of counties, rather than provinces, so would like to try my hand at making campaign maps. Can anyone post a quick guide to this? Would it be possible to use current province maps, blow them up and then subdivide them? Im also willing to cooperate with anyone working on campaign maps.

The engine does not support scrolling campaign maps so a more detailed map would have to fit in the same space as the current maps. This means that you would have to make the army icons and so forth very small. To be honest, I don't think it is very feasible. Also the campaign system is not designed to be very detailed, and you would come up against various restrictions such as the maximum of 16 "field armies" and 256 "field army" units per side.

Designing maps for campaigns of a similar level of detail to the current campaigns would be feasible, but there would be a steep learning curve because of the way the map data is constructed - it isn't a simple image. I barely understand how to do it myself. I will ask the artist if he could explain it.

I know it's not quite the same thing, but I bought a cheap map made some wooden blocks and painted them and printed out stickers of The Royalist flags and Parliament flags. Made over a 100 cards with the Townes coat of arms on.
"Hope Keyth doesn't mind but I used his rules" and made myself an ECW Campaign. I can take as long as I like and amend rules, or put in my own rules as I fancy.
I play all the battles in skirmish mode with the relevant lists.......Very Sad I know, just got started today after preparing over the last 3 weeks. It gives me something to do. Had my first battle today. General Lambert fought a very hard fought battle for Taunton. Pushing the Royalist back.....Under the Earl of Forth's command....Parliament won 36% to 66%. I have to say this game is something else! I wait with interest which era they do next.

Pat's explanation of how to make the Campaign maps has been moved to the

"Designing your own campaign maps"

topic in the Scenario Design section.
