Hi,
I'm trying to get as much infos as possible for a Komnenian Byzantines army as per coming Sword and Scimitar.
Which are best manufacturers for 15mm byzantines?
Is there a way to "optimize" the units in order to use them both in Sword & Scimitar and subsequent armybooks (Decline and Fall etc.)?

I know old glory does a line but i haven't seen them .I would also like to know what manufacturers would be the best for komnenians ?

I's use the essex Nikephorian range - the ones with the teardrop shield normanesque but slightly wider.

I use my round shield thematics for Kommenan figs and althrough there were rounds shielded cav at the start of this time it s bit of a stretch.

Right I have been using some of the same tricks but I wish someone would make fig's like the ones in the osprey books . I would like to have enough to do an Alexios based army but take a later period to a tourney . Should I use normans for the later hvy armoured knights (latinakon) ? are the horses barded?

Normans are smack bang in the right time period and the latnikon should have narrower teardrop shields. I am not singing to my own tuen though as i use crusader knights which are really too late.

I've neven seen a black hat fig in the flesh so dont know how their scalabiltiy stacks up. If you were using essex Byzantine Cav for example the horses would dwarf some (i.e. all) other ranges and the hard hitting part of your army could end up looking a little emasculated.

Outpost Miniatures do a range of figures specifically for Komnenan Byzantines. Photos of most of them are shown on their website http://www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk but it hasn't been updated for a while.

Thanks for the link guys they look great . I am really wondering about the latinakon as I know there were Normans in the army but I wonder about the later period post 1150 would the knights be like crusader knights with barded horses and some plate mail etc .what would the later post 1150 latinakon look like?
