rally during a continuous melle

Another interesting situation : the guards were holding Hougoumont a bit disorganised due to french infantry fire . The french decided to charge from 3 different directions and managed to get all the units into contact . So the melee begins and the guards, being disrupted, go wavering . As they make no "outcome move" being in an urban area, the melee goes on for another turn .

The interesting question was : the melle is going on ! can an general outside of the elee but within 4 MU and in command try to reorganise the unit still in melee ? It seemed to us that the answer should be NO that the general should be with the unit, even if not a the front !

So the guards broke :D

Any comment ? and it might need some clarification in FOGN2

p. 71 (top right column, 2nd para.): A commander leading a unit in contact with enemy cannot make a recovery attempt.

So, it's a bit of a toss up? I'll add it to my FAQs list.

So and what if the leader is with the unit but not leading it in the melee !

What if the leader is 4 MU away ( case of Hougoumont assaulted on 3 sides and nearly cut off ...

Might be interesting to clarify things in V2 :D

You can't be with a unit and not leading it. That was a discussion at one point but has never been put into errata or such.

I posted it to Terry for clarification.
