Nonexistent AI?

I have been playing the basic campaign for some time now and observed that on "attack missions" (that is when the orks arent scripted to come at you in waves) the enemy just sits idly where the designer placed it.
So Iam picking them off 1 by 1 from ranges of 3 or 4 (outside their line of sight and gun range) which makes for an extremely boring play.
Enemy groups should be "aggroed" when one of their units come under fire and seek out the attackers, not just sit on their hands while they are massacred from beyond the fog of war.
Maybe I have been spoiled by Panzer Corps (and especially the masterfully crafted DLC missions) but I would have expected way more from Slitherine.
At least the art is pretty and who needs AI when you can look at the cute pictures of your soldiers.
