Map and Range Scale

Hi Folks,
Am wondering what your opinion is as to certain scale issues when modding and map designing to approximate Squad Leader in BA2. Of course, there are naturally some issues when going from a hex-based to a grid-based game anyway, but all of these things are compromise. A hex is Squad Leader represented 40 meters, and could accommodate three squads, plus some leaders and support weapons, so it seems to me that a scale of four spaces (2x2) or at most nine (3x3) spaces in BA2 for each SL map hex would work.
Obviously, this would then entail changing the available AP for units so they could move the same distances in BA2 as they did every turn in SL, so a reasonable compromise there, as well as increasing the engagement and spotting ranges. I know there are already some excellently done SL missions available, but I want to do some of this stuff on my own, (while of course, shamelessly borrowing from Enric). I've already been tinkering with the weapon s ranges for the infantry and support weapons, and their effectiveness at different ranges, as well as LOS. Also, placed a rather hefty (though subject to fine tuning) cost to AP's incurred by shooting, to bring things more in line with SL.
Anyway thoughts on optimum scale?
