Any good turned based games with Battle Animations?

I like my Panzer General and other hexed based games, but recently I was playing a free old DOS turned based game (SP WW2) and although it was made up of many sprites, I liked the animation action of the fighting. It reminds me of the original Allied General as it was the first and only game of the series to show the combat between the different units fighting. Another okay game is the Daisenryaku WW2 series which is fun to play on a PSP. But what I was wondering if is there are any recent WW1(2) etc turned based strategy games that show the various battles raging on when a group in one hex or square or area attacks another? Sometimes a little action makes it cooler. Anybody have any good games they know about?

but please don't take my word for it, watch the video's, read the AAR and then see the forum comments for more advice, ask questions, see what replies you get then make your own mind up either way.

If you have a DS I recommend Panzer Tactics (although it seems you can't buy it in stores much any more).

However, it is quite unrealistic (Torch in 1941, every tank about 2 years ahead of its time) - but a good time waster nonetheless.

Yeah I know about those and it was a dissapointment that the iOS version of the remake didn't show it. I'm been browsing all of Matrix/Slitherines OLD SCHOOL FREE DOS games (maybe I should me a second topic about this). And have played games that I am positive were the inspirations for BofB and Desrt Fox series as well as some others and besides the not too great graphics the freedom you have when you send your limited panzers down the road and run into an English battalion to move and shoot instead of dice roll add some badass fun to these precursors. Come on ppl there's gotta be more!
