Cavalry charge : in a recent game, the french cavalry charged an irregular grenzer unit . A austrian cav counter charged .
I am sure that if the grenzers were wavering, they would have had to test morale . But if the charge is intercepted do they have to flee as SK ?
Also, the french were shot at by the austrians :
What happens if the french charge is stopped by the opportunity fire
- Does the countercharge continue even if it would not contact the chargers ?
It has been discussed somewhere but cannot find it

If the intercept is successful the original target does not have to take any tests for being charged. So in this case the Grenzers would not have been forced to evade as the charge against them was cancelled by the Austrian cavalry.
The charge was cancelled by the intercept so the Grenzers are not required to test for being charged as they are no longer the target of a charge.
As far as I know if the French are stopped by defensive fire they still stop 2 MU from their target, I know its an odd thing. As far as I can recall thats how it works.
Dont forget that once the French contacted the interceptors they are in melee contact and can not be shot at any more. Also they would have to pass within 2 MU of the shooting Austrian unit who would need 5's to hit the cavalry as the shooters were not the target of the charge.
Hope that cleared it up for you.

The trick was : the grenzers were able to shoot at the french
Unusual situation .
But I am sure that for testing if wavering, even if the chargers are intercepted or stopped by frieldly fire, you must test morale.
Forming square or other is another matter

A successful intercept cancels the charge and cancels any relevant tests. The Grenzers probably couldn't shoot as the intercept moves first, then the chargers move into contact with the intercepting unit. I suppose it depends on how far out the intercept occurred.
If there was no intercept the Grenzers would test twice, once for being charged and once for being charged by cavalry in the open, assuming they were not in terrain. They would then test before any shooting opportunities. If they break the French make a full move towards the Grenzers attempting to contact them. If the Grenzers passed the test then they would evade if skirmishers, or form square or shoot if in tactical.

During our january tournament Terry rules that a wavering unit being charged, had to test even if the chargers were intercepted before reaching the wavering target .

right you are.
As for the unit still having to test, I don't think that ever made it into the forums although I thought the last word written there was the charge was cancelled and the target did not have to test. Hopefully V2 of the rules will clear up stuff like this.
