... and also blowing up bridges.
When you are the attacker, minefields might only be useful occasionally. But for a defender they can delay and stall nicely. The same applies to blowing up bridges.
Beware, my first attempts to lay minefields ended in me trapping my own Engineer as I couldn't pass through my own fields.
I perhaps mined too much on Bataan and in Warplan Orange 3, the 2nd and 3rd US scenarios. Each mine field or to blow up a bridge costs 10 resources.
I mined the western part of the map, but will try again and see if I can't use that for even better effect on the eastern side of the Bataan map.

I think mines cost 20 but TNT 10 gold.
I had good success dropping mines on bridges instead to blow them up. Caused the AI to shift it units around to intact bridges. Try to mine open hexes between difficult terrain like a gap in jungles. There is a nice spot on the left in the Bataan Map between river and a jungle hex. Then use the engineer to mine the bridge on the right next to the bunker. On the east side of the map mine the spot between upper most city and the jungle. This will not only slow down the enemy advance, but also force them into bad terrain making them loose an other turn to restore efficiency, which later even cause more congestion when the IA goes on full assault.
However according to the new patch offensive engineers are clearing mines now. So I doubt this still have the same powerful effect as earlier.

Here is how I placed the mines:

Didn't work out 100% as intended but I think you are right, should have just mined and not blown up the bridge, would have had nearly the same effect.
I lost a 37mm Flak/Pak and unfortunately also my tank and Patrol Boat, for some reason the enemy planes picked it over the other.
But all in all it worked out nicely!
On Bataan, there is the village of Moron. Yeah, I thought so, too.

Personally I only use mine to protect a flank (1 minefield) or on roads as the AI always use roads so they will step on the mine

Just realized always mix up Bataan with the first battle.
Anyway, I like your mining Longasc, I know it's good, because I would be very annoyed right now, if I had to be the other player.
