Been playing sometime now yet this still ponders me a lot.

Those transport is there a difference besides defence value? Is this like PzC where truck is only effective at road and halftracks at rough terrain?

Thx

I understand that there is no difference in movement, halftracks just seem to provide a better defence. The manual does not state anything. Maybe the developers or some beta tester can provide a better answer here, i am also curious to know ...

I agree, there needs to be some info about land transport options. I am playing as IJN now and I have three different options for infantry transports, but I have no idea what their advantages/disadvantages are. Can someone please assist with this? Are all of the transports (truck, halftrack, etc) the exact same?

The upgraded transports usually have better attack/defense values, you should be able to compare them in the upgrade screen towards the bottom.

true, but the point is about movement capabilities of the various transports over different terrains; are there any value selecting a truck vs halftrack besides the defence/attack strenght ?

There are diffs, for example lightly armored half tracks are better protected vs. infantry attack compared to trucks. Movement types do differ too for example between wheeled and tracked vehicles.

Thanks Bebro. Could you please provide more details on the difference between wheeled and tracked vehicles and the effect of the various terrain types, at the moment both wheeled and tracked vehicles seem to cover the same distance independently on the terrain crossed. I could not find any detailed explanation in the manual.

Thank you very much for any hint or clarification on this subject.

The true movement speed of vehicles is based on their chassis type. Wheeled transports have the Wheel while Half-tracked have the Track chassis type.
Depending on the terrain type, each chassis type needs a certain amount of movement points to travel over the terrain. Without going much into details here, the only differences between Wheel and Track are Jungle (W3/T4) and Scorched (W2/T1) terrain. That means wheeled vehicles go easier over jungle than any tracked ones, while they are slower over scorched (Iwo Jima) terrain than tracked.
You can check out all movement terrain modifiers in the chassis.txt file (and change anything what you don't like there if you don't bother about MP compatibility).
By the way, the Jap Type 1 Ho-Ki transport has the wrong Wheel chassis type in 1.7.0 although being a tracked vehicle.

I was used from Panzer Corps that attached transports increased the cost to repair/replace strength points, but a lately test by me has shown that there is thankfully no repair cost increase. Attaching expensive transports is therefore only a matter of one-time purchase expense. Unfortunately, there is no discount when switching M3 halftracks to M3A1.
