Hello, me again with another query.

In the carthaginian lists, the African spearmen are labeled as having the offensive spearman capability. No problem with this, but I just wanted to know - are they assumed to have the spears capability when it comes to melee?

All defensive or offensive spearmen are considered spearmen for melee purposes. Light spear are not spearmen, they are light spear and some also are swordsmen.
