Some questions.

Playing away I presume on normal settings, win some battles lose some battles I usually win on the second try anyhow some general questions.

1\ Are Cuirassiers meant to go head to head with Pike and Shot ? The AI seems to have no problem doing this, I would have thought Cavalry must lose.

2\ Have a bad habit of attacking Cavalry head on with two units is this basically a waste of time extra numbers don’t seem to add that much to your chances of winning.

3\ Is there any hidden advantage or bonus to having commanded shot next to cavalry or similar bonuses in the game?

4\ If part of your line begins to weaken (Disrupted) does this have a impact on units nearby?

No they are not if the Pike and Shot are Steady, yes they are if the Pike and Shot are Disrupted or Fragmented. The AI will sometimes charge steady Pike and Shot out of desperation, and will usually lose the combat when it does.

They do add to your chance of winning (in melee, but not at impact), but not nearly as much as if you pin them with one unit, then charge them in the flank with the other. This requires more preparation to get into the right positions.
3\ Is there any hidden advantage or bonus to having commanded shot next to cavalry or similar bonuses in the game?
The cavalry get no bonus from the commanded shot. The commanded shot get a very significant bonus (against cavalry) from the cavalry.
4\ If part of your line begins to weaken (Disrupted) does this have a impact on units nearby?
Not until somebody Breaks. Then all adjacent units have to test morale. (Unless the Breaking unit is light troops and the adjacent units aren't, or the breaking unit is artillery).

Good advice. Alternatively, if you are playing on a PC, you can hold down the CTRL key whenever you want to see the detailed tooltips.
