Can you try to assault them...fail...then in the next manuver phase wander off? ie choose to stop attacking it?

If skirmishers are trying and failing to assault it, I presume they can evade if charged.

Kill the boys in the luggage?

'Tis expressly against the Law of Arms

'Tis as errant a piece of knavery as can be offered

In your conscience is it not?!

:D

Can't see why not.

I would assume so.

This came up at the Challenge, though in relation to an unfortified camp. I believe the evade is possible because it is stated in the rules that looters are not in close combat.

I was doing the looting. A unit must pass a CMT to stop looting, but, since no combat takes place whilst looting, it was decided that my LH could run away if charged in the flank by some nasty blokes with big pointy sticks, as LH can make a normal evade if not in melee. IIRC correctly it was seleukid camp, far nicer than the Roman camp that they built a fort around.

Presumably if they evade they would stop looting and therefore would have to take a CMT to evade.

I agree, though if a unit fails to sack a fortified camp I don't think a CMT would be needed because they are not yet looting the camp.
