Unit Experience

The manual says: "Experience slightly improves a units offensive and defensive capabilities, but mostly impacts unit efficiency and survivability. Veteran units will suffer less efficiency loss from combat and movement, and will take fewer casualties when forced to retreat."
How much exactly these game parameters are affected by experience? In addition, is experience calculated on the basis of the number of levels (stars) achieved or is a continuos value i.e. 3500 exp provides twice benefit of 1750 exp.?
Thank you very much in advance for any hint or clarification.

I would imagine it will be linked to the star rating, which is apparently due a buff in the upcoming patch.
Experience gain is currently very low.

Thanks Ballacraine.
That is my guess too. However, this concept is not fully explained/clarified in the manual, so I was wondering on the experience mechanics. In other words what advantages are exactly gained with experience, and I agree the experience gains are way too low - less than half of my units got 1 star after 5 scenarios.
regards

From playing the game it looks like they only fare better in battle. Never seen any movement advantage, better recon etc.

Thanks Erik,
I can confirm that. I had the chance to see the combat odds of two units with 0 stars and 3 stars respectively on the same target and the 3 stars unit had indeed a better odds. However I am wondering what formula is behind the combat advantage provided by the experience. I am really enjoing this game and would like to learn as much as possible.

Am I missing something or is there no way to add strength points to experienced units, giving them 10+ values like in PG/PC? I look for such a button to boost my early game 1-star units into overstrength 11's but don't see it. Are my old eyes failing me?

I believe only AI units at certain difficulty levels can have over strength units.
Personally I think this feature is one of the things I don't like in PzC.

Correct. Player units only up to 10. AI gains as difficulty goes up.

I made quick test with the editor to check out the exp/star differences. It looks like that units like infantry with rather low attack/defense values have hardly a difference between 0 and 5 stars. Very powerful units like battleships seem enjoy a huge impact from experience. You can see on the screenshots that the full-star BB becomes almost invulnerable against a landlubber crew.

Thank you! That is interesting, based on your findings it looks as experience increases a % of the unit combat statistics and it is not raising by fixed values with each stars. Considering what you have shown I wonder if is worth investing money for elite replacement for units with low attack/defense values.
Perhaps it would help if the developers could clarify a bit the experience influence on combat mechanics. I suspect that are not just attack and defense values involved.
cheers,

I guess every type of modificator, addition or multiplication, has it's pro and con. I'm fine with the small infantry differences but the prowess of a full-star BB looks out of balance. This class is already powerful enough against other classes.
It would be great if such game variables would be externalized into txt files like unit data. That always helps understanding (and modifying) the game.

I would be more in favour of a mechanic where each star gained gives a perceptable improvement in performance.
Just a thought that occured, how about if each experience star enabled a buff in one area?
That way you could customise unit effectiveness to attack or defence.
