Place names on maps?

About 10 hours in and two things are bugging me.
I don't see any way to pop up place labels on maps. Had to go look at Google earth to figure out where Port Moresby was.
And a strategic view of the map would be nice.

I agree with both points strongly here.
Also on the minimap...the difference in colors between a unit that has taken action vs one that has not is very slight. It would be nice to see the difference in colors more in stark contrast.

I agree too, I have to hold a town but I dont know which one it is as there is no tooltip like with units. i would also like to see an undo move function, even if only for moves that do not reveal enemies.

Aye, the no names is not cool... Though i certainly know where Port Moresby is on the other hand
But seriously, it is a very bad move and very immersion breaking.

Most location objectives have a blue question mark that will take you to the location on the map.
I lobbied for place names during beta (several times

) as I knew other players would ask for it.
It is standard for most war games. I assume we will get it eventually.
Keep the pressure up

Absolutely agree. Place names are strongly needed.

Yes, +1 for placenames. If I hadnt accidentally clicked on that blue question mark I would still be searching for Mariveles.

When do the blue question marks appear? Once into a scenario (in the campaign) I don't find them on any map.

You can find them in front of the objectives in the turn overview popup. Click the date/turn box above the options button to access it.
The questionmarks give information about related locations on the map as well as a description of what award(s) you get for achieving the (secondary) objectives.

I agree, easy to see place names are definitely needed. They give the map a lot of flavor and context. It is kinda bizarre that they aren't on there already.

Maybe you could put the place names on the 2D map only. That wouid keep the 3D map clean, and you could switch over to take the place name tour.

I already wrote this in March 2014:
"Btw.... don't tell me that you're going to make the same mistake as in Panzer Corps by leaving out the city names. Names really add character to a game and make a map look more than just some random map with just 6 random (uninteresting) cities. If you're really that much worried about clutter, then make it optional. The clutter of a few city names can never be as bad as watching 50 units of which each one comes with 2 icons. Don't get me wrong though, the icons are necessary, but in all honesty... they add a lot more clutter than 6 city names."
Obviously they don't like the listen....sigh
I even showed an example of Panzer Corps WITH city names in a quick Photoshop with the right style and size, everybody agreed then that it looked great and really was a useful addition to the game, but also then they couldn't bother to listen.
If you want to go fancy with all kind of historical details, then add the bloody place names....seriously...sigh

I think it was Talonsoft campaign series games that had the place names hidden, but would pop up if you held the shift key. I'm sure that would work also, optional but easy to access.

Yep, missing place names add unnecessary overhead to army movements and logistic planning. Also, I find myself looking for blown up bridges too much. The artwork is great, but sometimes a bit confusing.

Great game, pricey, but great!
I would like to know the reasoning as to why place names were not added in the first place? How hard would it be to add city names? I also agree as to the proper labeling of objective points like cities and bridges. Add to that the labeling of terrain hexes. Now I'm off to complain about the lack of a "back" button on another forum.

Shrike, yes the blown bridge definitely needs redone, should have a chunk missing from the center or something. Maybe a modder will do one up. Kdf, the back button was my first post when I started Beta testing. It has been explained by ad herbal why it isn't in; cheating, hidden units, you can use the quick save/load, cheating. I only wanted it because I mis-click, or move without paying attention sometimes.
My solution, if possible, would be a one use per turn button, disabled for all multiplayer games, meaning more than one human player. That's it, mis-click, hit the button, done. If you do it again that turn, too bad, use plan B.
