1x 6base BG Average Unprot LF, Bow
1x BG Elephants

it's not highly mobile, and gets pummelled by LH bow armies...

Well I would have expected rather more pike.

Not saying you are wrong as you get more frontage.

You also have trouble with almost any sort of uneven ground.

it's the frontage issue that's the biggie. the hoplites are to fill it out a little more. and thinking of changing the HF armoured (thorakitai), back to MF.

but i found that a single BG of MF doesn't cut the mustard.

consequently i take the maximum number and size of open spaces when picking terrain!

If your having trouble with LH bow armies have you thought of swapping out something like the elephants for either a couple more BGs of LF bow or maybe a BG of LH Bow yourself?
