Two questions from last night's massacre!

Took a tonking last night, but two things came up that we were not sure about (we've played 5 games each, so excuse us if the answers are obvious):

Enemy horse unit on the table edge, flank exposed to a pike and shot block.
Pike and shot are at 45 degrees, but in charge range at their left side.
At the other end of the Pikes is a unit of enemy dragoons.
Behind the flank, out of charge range, is a warrior unit that has just smashed through the front line.

We tried to work out if my Pike could charge?
We eventually spotted that it was a CMD for being in the edge zone, which my unit failed, so no charge.
Is this correct?

The other question involved pursuing cavalry, my unit rolled short (it was a GREAT night on the dice), and had room to pass between protected artillery and the rear and flank of a pike and shot unit.
The pursuing cavalry rolled a 6 (meh), they were in a two wide, two deep formation, with enough room to pass through my two units.
Could he have contacted either unit, or does he continue the pursuit?

Either way, I lost (broken 7 units from 14)14-6 due to appalling dice for morale and death saves!

G'day

just looking at question 1, I don't see why the pike & shot couldn't charge.

Now, they would need to make a CMT to charge mounted (page 82), they don't care about the dragoons.

With question 2, if the cav unit was in contact with the pike & shot unit with all of it's bases, it will pursue the routing unit.

The routing unit moves away in direction of the enemy and while pursuing and you cannot change direction to contact fresh enemies.

Now, if you were in contact with the P&S unit with say just one base of the cav unit and the other was an overlap, in the pursuit phase, when the cav unit pursues the P&S unit and contacts another enemy before it contacts the routing enemy unit, then yup, he is now in contact with a new enemy. This is resolved in the next impact phase.
