Mutual charging

Had a new occurence last night. Longbowmen pursued and hit a pike unit in the bow's melee phase. We know this is calculated as a charge in the pike's impact phase. Some of the overlapping bows were then charged themselves in this same impact phase. We counted the bow as charging so they did not receive the rear rank supporting fire. Is this correct? The actual movement of the charge was in an earlier phase. Should both BG's count as mutually charging in the same impact phase, or is it just the resolution of the event that takes place then? This never matters except for those with PoA's that depend on who initiated the charge.

Interesting question! As the game mechanism of igo/ugo is an abstraction to help play, I would say as the LB were pursuing, thus charged into the pike AS they themselves were charged, the way you calculated stuff was right.

I think they count as charging.

Supplementary question
If it had happened in the pike's melee phase would the pike's friends have been entitled to intercept the bow in the bow's impact phase?

Looking at the full turn sequence on p168, I don't think so as even if it happened in the impact phase, intercept moves come long before rout and pursuit moves. There is no provision for intercepts to happen in the melee phase.

Effectively the question comes down to in the subsequent impace phase do they count as charging 0MU and can thus be intercepted, or as already in contact and not able to be intercepted.

If they can be intercepted and are intercepted on the flank or rear - which cancels their charge - do they still fight frontally as they are already in contact?

There will be no interception, there is no option to intercept pursuits.
