I don't think it's in their plans now to have the MG42 as the mobile MG, otherwise they would have written that in for BA2 I would have suspected. If I recall correctly someone at Slitherine stated that because the German army was the only one with an all purpose MG, and every other nation had LMG and HMG categories it was decided to have the MG34 as the portable one and the MG42 as the heavy tripod version to maintain play balance.

too bad, since the portable edition could just be a different (selectable) unit which would play out closer to a simulation of the real capability differences.
that being said, I have seen portable MG42 in several BA1 mods.

Ya it would add to it which would be nice as the german platoon was based around the MG , but again I think it came down to play balance. If they gave the MG42 better stats and mobility (rightfully so) then you'd have to alter british rifle section stats to show the lee enfield having a quicker rate of fire, then take into account barrel changing and ammo consumption so the MG42 isn't a wonder weapon. It kind of gets slippery fast so I can understand why they did it how they did. That's my best guess.
It will be interesting to see what they do for 44-45 expansions and the stg44. Though I'd imagine they'll just give it the same stats as the American Rangers BAR. Would seem fair.
Biggest thing for me is at least HMGs can move on their own, albeit a space at a time. Before they were kind of useless after initial deployment in defensive roles.
