Ok Chaps,

Let's say you have this formation:

E N E M Y - T A R G E T
2.5" gap

:!: :?: :!:
:!: :?: :!:

 = Artillery
:!: :?: :!: = Standard 4&2 Pike and shot.

1) Ok, so how many dice do you roll against the enemy target?

I say 4. 2 from Artillery and 2 from the right hand shot which is actually at the front lining up with the front edge of the guns.

I get this from P126 where it says:

"Artillery base depths vastly over-represent their actual historical depth. Hense a battle group in a position to give rear support to artillery is treated for all purposes as if its front edge was in the position of the front edge of the artillery, except that the files actually providing rear support cannot shoot." (emphasis mine).

So, the left hand shot can't as they are providing rear support, but the right hand can.

2) If the enemy were not there and the supporting troops wanted to advance, they measure from the front edge of the artillery bases... as " battle group in a position to give rear support to artillery is treated for all purposes as if its front edge was in the position of the front edge of the artillery".

So, now the real question (and IMHO a bit of a glitch)

3) If the supporting troops want to turn 90degrees, I'd say via the RAW, they can't.

Doesn't this seem a little odd?

I knew I'd discussed this earlier.

Here and to a lesser extent here.

One major area of roughness in the rules is the artillery rules.
