this place is dead or what

maybe the developer should tell us what's going on or this place is shutting down slowly... there was a bit or renewed hope when the the new version was said to be done in early January, but almost three months later.... heck even stockwellpete has disappeared.

Yeah it does feel that while we wait for the new version of FOG to be finally ready the community is dying a bit - no league. I would suggest the league should be continued until the new FOG is actually ready and not in continual beta.

Personally,

I am simply shut down until the update arrives. It would be agreeable to get regular notices of progress or lack of it.

I too am a little confused as to what is going on and what the timeline is for the completely finished new release, not just another improved beta. I will be continuing to run tournaments as if the new version is never coming.

The trouble is - if we start the league and then the new version is released while it is in progress, the server will be cleared and all matches that are in progress will be lost. This would cause a major disruption to the competition and we could lose players who might have 7 or 8 matches on the go at any one time. My original schedule for 2015 was that Season 5 would start on February 1st and Season 6 on June 1st. Provisionally, I now hope to start Season 5 on June 1st. I will try and find out from Slitherine the latest situation. The communication has not been very good I must say - I was told by them that a decision would be made late January/early February but I have heard nothing since. I think the new version of the game is stable but there is one significant" problem" with it inasmuch as the combat results on the opponent's turn occur incredibly quickly so that it is impossible to follow what is happening. It is a game-breaker for me (and I suspect many other players too) so that will have to be fixed before I would consider starting a tournament. Dan has said that is a relatively straightforward matter of adding some new code to the game to correct this issue.

Hi Stockwellpete - I didn't realise the issue regarding games being cleared off the server once the new version is official - as you say that could cause major problems!

Let's hope they confirm the release date soon. :D

I am new since December and have noticed a remarkable drying up... which is a real shame, as I was amazed how thriving of a community this was after many years. I say this with particular positive love to Matrix, and endless patience with Slitherine as well, but I hope that they stay a "family" developer and let us, the community know clearly enough what is going on, because the PC gaming world is full of unlimited producer and publisher liberties (endless deadlines, unanounced cancellations, DLC's of basic content e.g.)... I think a bit of courtship with this community is well in order

I have sworn an oath of secrecy to Iain at Slitherine today with regards to all the details, but I think I am allowed to say that things are still moving forward - so the new version is definitely coming our way. :D

what's the point of the secrecy? they think they're apple with a new product? like obelix said, they should be engaging what's left of the community, not disappointing it with the same cryptic promises.

I am sure that when they have something definite to tell us then they will.

they could tell us why after announcing the game done in early january, we still have no idea what's going on. they owe me nothing but it's a strange way to run a business and keep the customer base.

In general geeks and PR don't mix... but Matrix/Slitherine's policy seems to be no announcements/promises in general. They oftentimes announce a release date a week before, or even on the day at times!

Anyone know what if anything they have decided about making it iPad capable as well? That answer has been continually kicked down the road but never answered solidly either way.

IPad users really need a version.

I'm afraid I've lost all faith in this game now. A combination of missed deadlines, atrocious communication and a feeling of stagnation mean that I barely even check any more. Today was a flying visit and I saw that others were thinking along similar lines so I figured I'd share my disillusionment. :(

I too have been a bit disappointed in the length of the re-write and the coming and going of deadlines. However, we should not forget that this project is being done at no expense to owners of the game and is a voluntary task taken on by Dan.

For me that's the biggest concern. If the company have so little interest, what chance does it really have?

I would love for them to release this game and the add on's onto Steam like they have with some of the other games. I think that a lot more people would buy it and generate a lot more interest

If they release it before it's ready, everyone will complain.
If they delay releasing it, everyone complains.
So why don't we all just keep an eye on this site every so often and wait until it appears? :)
