Stupid AI - even on my side

Was playing a skirmish this afternoon and had the AI do some very stupid things with my units during the reaction phase.
1. Had a Jagdpanther face to face with a JS-2. Enemy AI moved an infantry squad on one side and the Jagdpanther turned to fire at the squad and subsequently took a hit from the JS-2 though the side and was destroyed.
2. Had multiple 234/1 try to engage enemy armor and subsequently dying instead of retreating like any good recon unit should do.
AI should not do stupid things like expose a vulnerable flank to engage a non-threat or try to engage something that it cannot even harm.

The Jagdpanther is tank destroyer and will turn to face the unit it is firing at.

For 2 your unit is merely giving its reaction shot to enemy units that are moving too close. Your units will only retreat when it's morale goes into the negative

I know that. But why would a tank destroyer expose its vulnerable side to a tank in order to shoot at an infantry squad. That is the problem. Don't engage lower priority targets and expose yourself to a threat.

Let's see. I want to shoot my 7.92mm machine gun at a tank armed with a 122mm cannon, calling attention to myself and dying in a fireball. Recon units should scout and only engage in self defense when their weapon is effective. Otherwise, use speed and maneuverability to get out of dodge.

You could also use the 'Hold Fire', ten it will only fire at certain targets and times...

Note that Hold fire is automatically disabled if the unit is visible. Reaction fire is always a tricky one to get right all the time, and the logic for it is fairly advanced. While true that it doesn't take exposed flanks into account, generally it is better to have a unit react that not. If the infantry had closed in and destroyed the tank in an assault this thread would be about how the tank failed to shoot at them
Cheers
