Unable to run Panzer Corps - FIXED

When I click on the autorun file (either on the desk top or in the folder) I get Runtime error. "Project file not found in archive"

This may be a more general computer problem as it had previously worked fine and I recently did an update of the Microsoft files (about two days ago), although the problem has only emerged today and I was able to use Panzer Corps last night. Also, my internet access is not working properly though I don't really expect you to help with that! (I'm using a different machine with no Panzer Corps at the moment).

Any suggestions in case the runtime error is fixable?

Thanks

It seems to have fixed itself.

One more restart (after the other 3 or 4 had had no effect) seemed to cure everything (except my ability to spell Panzer Corps!).

Hi captainjack, thanks for updating so quickly, and what spelling error? ( )

You are not alone I think, there seems to have been a big update for Windows 64-bit OS a few days ago, with some issues here and there. I am running Win7 on an old machine and after the update my PC started to freeze and some (ancient) programs could not be closed anymore without brute force. I 'fixed' the freezes by removing my soundcard and all associated drivers, which solved 99% of the problems. Well, except that all my previous restore points have become unusable as well...

Then the day after I visited some people, and they needed me to take a look at some documents, but their Win8 machine was busy updating and could not be accessed for a long time, so they booted their backup Vista laptop, which then started updating in a similar fashion; this took two hours and multiple reboots after which it became unresponsive (which sounded VERY familiar when I read your post, hence my comment), although I've since heard it works normally again.

I just wanted to let you know you are not the only one experiencing trouble after this big round of updates, glad to hear it seems to have resolved itself.

Thanks for the comments ThvN. It was looking very much like a new computer and full reinstall of Panzer Corps at one point, so a relief on several counts when it worked again.

As for the spelling issue - it was originally posted as 'Unable to run Panze Corps' - the missing R wasn't Microsoft's fault!

Window 8 is less prone to random crashes and "where's my data?" moments that XP was, but the "we've decided to update your computer now, whether you like it or not" is a definite issue (including at work, when you have to leave for an urgent appointment but microsoft knows better and takes 1 1/2 hours to update your computer". Joy.
