Hi guys,

Been reading the immortal fire book and run into some combinations i am not sure i understand, typically with persians.

if you had a unit with 2 bases of light spear and 2 bases of bow how would it deploy? I am guessing 2 light spear in front rank and 2 bow behind. How do these then fight? Am I right in guessing front rank fight in impact and rear rank shoot. Then in melee all ranks fight effectively as if they had spear...

Also some with half bow and some half bow and light spear i guess the spear go in front rank and count for impact? The bow go in the 2nd rank. As long as not in combat both ranks can shoot. In combat the front rank would use their light spear in impact whilst 2nd rank of bow fired in the impact phase??

PS I am guessing Assyrian Asharittu and Hupshu would be like this as well?

The rear rank can always shoot in the missile phase. Light spear would get their bonus in the Impact phase and the bow could shoot during the same phase. Then in melee they'd get to use their melee capability if they had any. I believe lights pear is impact only.

I'm sure you have it right. In impact the BG fights with whatever POA the front rank has and the rear rank shoots with its shooting POA v the enemy contacting, with the -1 POA for shooting in that phase.
In melee, both ranks fight but, in the Persians case, with no POA.
