Can a unit always make a rear charge that includes a wheel?

On page 56 of the rules, it states that 'For a charge to qualify as a flank charge, it cannot include a wheel unless the charging battle group starts its move with the nearest point at least 1 MU away from the battle group being charged'. Nothing about rear charges, even though it is in the section 'CHARGING A FLANK OR REAR'. The diagram atop page 57 has the following text attached to the unit performing a rear charge from the right of the diagram 'This BG cannot wheel as it is within 1 MU of the target.'

Which is correct the rule or the diagram? I have checked both the FAQ v3.0, and the Errata v1.09 on the site and in my printed copies of the same.

btw it is a real testament to the quality of the rules that this is the most significant RQ I have found in the first release (the rules have been well playtested and debugged (and I know how hard that is as I have run automated software testing teams for a living and been a playtester for boardgames, you have set a new benchmark for the industry).

The purpose of the rule was to prevent troops who have beaten the next BG in line from charging the next one in the flank by wheeling 1 degree.

That doesn't answer your question, I know, but it does explain what the priority was.

You appear to have spotted an anomaly.

This answer might usefully go in the FAQ. I have had this question--or variants of it--asked multiple times in the tournaments and learning games I have refereed.
