Resupply in hills... in a desert.

Why do the hills in deserts resupply as if they were just hills in a normal map. My sIG 38 was able to resupply all 4 ammo at once when normally it would only gain 2 at a time.

The hill terrain type doesn't have the 'lowsup' trait that desert has. Desert, rough desert, desert dunes and escarpments are all 'lowsup', the rest isn't.

I've been changing some things while modding, to make other terrain types suffer the penalty as well. A small annoyance is the fact that roads/railroads don't negate this trait, it would have been nice to be able to have these terrain features give more benefit than faster movement, as they were very important for supply routes.

Interesting cheat/flaw to take advantage of... I'm assuming this applies to AK. I have the game but have yet to play it as I am currently bogged down versus the Russians. I will try to keep it in mind. Cheers.

Yes it is, it is a bit of an exploit. One of the little things that make some scenarios easier if you use it. A lot of AK scenarios have a coastline or hills, and by making sure a nearly-empty unit ends its turn on a non-desert hex, this can make a lot of difference with some units, like BiteNibbleChomps' sIG38(t).

Not really an exploit, I just found that it happened once the sIG ran out of ammo.

And yes, it applies to AK (though I only found it on the scenario before India!)

In PG Forever, the two tricks were to resupply in the cities or to overstrength the unit, which would fully resupply even in the desert.

Sitting in the comfort of my living room, and not having been in a real desert, it's easy to believe that setting up a resupply point in the hills (where there's a bit of cover) would be less of a challenge than setting it up in the middle of the open desert.

In virtually every account of Rommel & DAK, there are pages & even chapters telling of supply shortages & difficulties - due in large part to the Royal Navy & Malta. I don't know if the game designer's intent was to reflect this by making the resupply button half as effective when you're in a desert hex or not. But, that's my best guess as to why though...
