Why is General Feldmarschall Haberman here?

While playing one of the expansion pack scenarios I rescued General Feldmarschall Haberman. In the next scenario he is included in my core units, and as such, I deploy him in his Skdfz 222, and have him accompany troops into battle. My questions are; does he have any effect on the troops around him? (such as increased abilities). Can I upgrade his Skdfz 222 and still retain his unique qualities (if he has any).

He’s not a bad sort, and I keep him behind the lines to make sure he stays safe, but is he of any real use in the scenarios?

Thank you
Halder

Good point!
I have suggested previously that local leaders positively (or negatively if bad!) affect battle outcomes.
I have also suggested that capturing enemy leaders be worth an interesting level of prestige as in real war. Make leaders tougher to spot.
You'll probably be told that this affects battle outcome by changing balance designed into the battle, so it ain't gonna happen.

My ax to grind (unheard so far) is to have unit effectiveness from hero awards (AND medals) and experience be reflected in the unit stats when right clicking on a unit so as to EASILY see capabilities and to distinguish from an inexperienced newbie unit. Right now a five starred unit with three heroes and three medals looks exactly like the newbie when clicked on. Units affected by an attached leader could have their unit stats adjusted up or down temporarily....

Habermann's recon unit that you rescue has no real special abilities, but when it is rescued an SE Maus tank will appear, with Habermann as a special hero with +2 move and +1 spotting.

If I remember correctly, isn't he still an auxiliary unit when available for the next mission? Because you mention that he is included in the core, but if he remains auxiliary he will dissappear again after his next deployment. Because the recon unit is taken off the map during 'Gates of Berlin' it is added to the reserve pool, so it can be deployed again in the next mission, but if it isn't put back in reserve again before the end of the next mission he should dissappear as only core units are carried over.
