I am continuously defeated in the siege of Nantwich battle in the ECW Campaign. My plan (not working) is to organise my pike and shot into a line, supported by the command shot, flanks protected by cavalry, push towards the Parliamentarians ( staying well within the hedgerows until they engage and then destroy them. What strategies have others tried that DO work?
Many thanks - brilliant game

You are outnumbered severely in this battle.
In order to win you must avoid fighting the bulk of the Parliamentary army.
In order to refresh my memory I re-played this one again today, winning 51% to 25%.
This is how I did it.
Leave the artillery to fire away from Acton.
Everyone else, proceed towards Nantwich.
Unless, of course, you think you can win the battle of the Alamo(Acton) there, which I cannot.
Set-up an ambush somehere between the two wooded areas near Nantwich
I myself like to capture Nantwich, which can be done if you move commanded shot to the rough terrain hex there and give them some additional support.
About 9 of the Parliamentary pike and shot will assault Acton and your lone artillery unit there.
Take advantage of the time gained to outfight the few Parliamentary units heading towards Nantwich. They will still have many dangerous cavalry, but it can be done.
Good Hunting!

Thanks Shawkhan2,
Victory! Great advice. I went all out for Nantwich (moving my artillery too, leaving nothing in Acton and putting the Command shot into the wood as a flank guard). Once the enemy in Nantwich were defeated, I turned about forming a strong line of pike and shot on the edge of the hedgerows, flanks protected by command shot and using the cavalry and dragons to rout any fragmented units. The Parliamentarians diverted some of their forces to Acton and threw the rest of their force at me as they arrived. If they'd paused to concentrate their units and hit me all at once I'd probably not have been able to hold them off.
Thanks again, Sapper153
