I guess I am not so much a noob anymore 2 months in and really enjoying this game.
To get started playing a game against a person go to multiplayer and log in.
go to get a challenge and any open games you can jump in on, but those are rare and do not stay up long

To create a game go to issue a challenge and pick from a scenario that sounds interesting to you.
Pick the side you want to play as and leave the password blank.
Leaving the password blank creates an open game that anyone can accept.
The way I always start is to tell people that I am from the States.
Winterset, Iowa to be exact.
And then I ask them where they are from.
There are several players over in Europe so if they are from another country I use Google Trnslator to communicate with them.
It is incredibly fun and helped me to connect with people all over the world.
Pretty neat.
