Charge question

I had my first game the other night with FoG and was suitably impressed. I have just finished re-basing all my Carthaginians from their WAB bases so I guess I'm converted. I have a question regarding charges which I was hoping someone could clarify.

There seems to be no benefit to chargers, in that their opponents count the same POA's i.e. If two units of impact foot charge each other, both count ++.

Am I playing this correctly or is there something I am missing?
Hope this makes sense.

It is assumed that opposing Battle groups will do what is best for them when charged. Impact foot would counter charge, although this is not displayed on the table top. Pikes or spear would probably stand and take it

Indeed

The POAs area carefully designed to a handle the charge / counter charges within them as they are SOPs that do not need representing. So the benefit of charging is your POA inthe first place at impact.

Instead there are a few where POAs are lost for charging when this is not normally a good idea - e.g. many foot lose their normal impact POAs if they charge shock mounted.
