Had a situation today where an enemy unit was situated to the rear of one of mine. I wanted to declare a charge but my opponent declared I couldn't without being charged in the rear. The enemy unit was exactly 2 MU behind mine and I wanted to move directly away from him. Consequently I let it go. Was he correct?

If your BG was within 2 MU (exactly 2 MU would do) of an enemy BG to your flank or rear then if you charged you would be subject to an interception charge which would cancel your charge when it hit your flank or rear.

It can seem a little strange but the best way to think of this seems to be that your troops are rather too busy worrying about the threat to their flank or rear rather than chage.
