Intercept charges question

There's one aspect of ICs I'm having trouble with at the moment:

My opponent and I each have BGs of LF facing each other and HF backing them up.

(1) What happens if my LF charges his LF and they evade, and my LF don't reach his HF but do end up within 2 MU of them. Can his HF do an Intercept Charge on my charging LF?

(2) What happens if my LF charges his LF and they evade, and my LF would reach his HF but stop 1MU short of them because they can't charge into non-skirmishers. Can his HF do an Intercept Charge on my charging LF?

I suspect the answers are (1) "yes", and (2) "no". Well, I hope (2) is "no" but I suspect "yes".

It depends if the path of the charge of your light foot crosses the zone of interception of the heavy foot. Remember that the heavy foot have to do any interception before evades and that the path of the charge has to cross the ZOI before taking evades into consideration.

The answer's not as obvious as I though. Here's my view:

If you go to p61 under Possible Responses to Charges, it is clear that ICs are made "prior to moving chargers". So I think what happens is the LF evade, the HF move to intercept, and then the charging LF stop 1MU short of the interceptors

From the FoG FAQ:

"What happens if charging skirmishers are themselves intercepted by non-skirmishers, can they evade?

An interception or evade is a response to a charge. It is not a response to an intercept charge. Troops therefore cannot evade from interceptors.

They cannot halt 1 MU away from the interceptors either.

Rationale: If you charge with skirmishers and get intercepted by non-skirmishers then you have to fight them – after all you didn’t have to charge in the first place. Think of it that you have committed your troops to an all out charge and it is easy to see how this is different from deciding to evade from enemy when you are stationary – much harder to stop a charge and regain control and turn around and run away (like trying to stop the charge of the Light Brigade). This decision must be made by the HF before any one moves.
So the first question is with the LF in the way, can the HF intercept, i.e. do they get in the way. Often not.

If the line of HF and LF are parallel to each other - surely the answer will usually be no - an intercept charge is not possible since interceptors move before evaders and can not interpenetrate in a charge.

Or does 'cross' have a different meaning to 'enter'?

You are correct.
