"out of range" when the game is finally ready to p

I'm using a Radeon X850 Series with two monitors.
I have an AMD ATX55 CPU
The first time I played the game, I set it for max graphical settings, and the game played fine. (Maybe I set the max range for 1600 x 1600 x 32? I don't recall what the max was.)
Upon recent examination, my monitor, a princeton Ultra 72 can go up to 2048 x 1536 x 32 resolution.
US version, received a sample copy directly from Strategy First as a part of their marketing efforts.
On my second attempt ot play the game, the full startup 'video' played it's full length a second time. (I wanted to skip these screen and go directly to the game. Esc basically popped me back to the Windows XP environment.) When I finally gave up (and after shutting off the second monitor so my cursor wouldn't "fly off" the screen) at the end of the introductory 'movies' I wound up getting an "Out Of Range" message from the monitor.
i.e. I can't play the game a second time as when it finally gets to the game, it says, "out of range" (red letters on a black screen).
