hi there,
are there just two zoom levels, if youre playing on low res?
i am playing the game now on my laptop and have only two zoom levels (far and middle).
can someone help me to see things clearer?
thanks and nice greetings

Yes, that is the difference between having low spec and high spec.

Well, that makes the game unplayable for me.
sadly, no gametest wrote about this problem.
i can play civ IV on my laptop without any problems zoom in and out in 3d enviroment, so that makes n o sense.
but if this is a fact, then i have to warn people, who can just play on low spec: dont buy this game, because when huge battles occure you need to zoom in.
(especially when youre playing on a laptop).
i hope i can return the game. i mean it's great, i like the concept and the look, but if there is no way to get access to the important tool of zooming in you can forget it.
thanks anyway

We've not had any problems reported before or found them ourselves when playing the the game on the middle zoom level and almost all games have a reduced set of features if you do not have the recommended spec. Most people prefer the mid zoom level for gameplay, the inner zoom level is more for eye candy.
ZOOOOOOOM in please!

when playing on a laptop you really need to zoom in sometimes. i played last night with my nose almost touching the screen.
i wouldnt mind if the reduced features on low spec would only allow you to play with nato signs and 16 colors.
i tried the high spec. and man i would love this game if i could play it on this setting (but it crashes after a few turns) just because of the zoom level.
isnt there any way to fix this? I dont care, if my tank would look like a sprite from the last winter of the C64 as long as i can tell that it belongs to my army and not to the enemy. PLEASE.
greetings

ok, my final statement to this topic: i am playing now with nato symbols, which gives you a good enough overview on mid-zoom-level.
i wont return my game - it's great, as i allready said - and now with nato symbols also playable on low spec. with a laptop.
(marching through the arc de triumph right now).
greetings and thanks

Glad you found a way to play it. It's not really an issue that could be fixed as its the pure memory size of the large zoomed in map that is causing the problem on your low spec machine.

I have a question:
I (foolishly) chose to start the game with low specs after updating and now I can't find a way to go back to high specs. Is there a way, and if so how can I change it back?[/quote]

You can edit the settings.txt in CEAW's main folder. The line
LOW_RAM
should be the candidate to change. For me (on high res) it says:
LOW_RAM 2
Probably it says "LOW_RAM 1" in your file? Maybe you try to change it to 2?

Or you can change the setting to zero(0), and the game will ask you the question again when you start it up.
When you said you tried the game in hi-ram mode, and it crashed after a few turns. Are you sure you had Full Screen toggled OFF?
What desktop resolution does your laptop run?

It worked like a charm... I can now zoom in and use the "darker hex" function to illustrate Fog of War again.
I don't have any problems with the game crashing or anything. It's very stable (after installing the new patch)

I have edited the setting in the main folder of the game, I've got the volue set on 0, but the game never asked again to choose the spped of my PC. Just once, when I installed it for the first time. I uninstalled and reinstalled and no question.
I changed the value to 2, and the closest zoom and darker map don't appear.
What can I do?

You should edit the settings in
Document/CEAW
or
Document/CEAW Fast Play
instead of game folder. The settings.txt in game folder is the raw settings. They are copied into Docuement first time you run the game and thereafter those in Document/ are used unless you delete the Document CEAW folder.

That's it! Thank you
