If a BG is in melee and you shoot at a part not directly in the melee , are the hits taken into account for the cohesion test at the end of the melee ?

Can you shoot at a second rank - involved in a melee - and if yes, how do the hits influence the fact that you win or loose a melee

Shooting takes place in its own phase, not in the melee phase. Thus it will not have an effect on the melee at all.

I don't believe you can shoot at a second rank since they are deemed to be part of the melee, you could only shoot at stands that don't contribute to the melee.
