Is there any sites that have troop counters you can d/l to print off to proxy in to play with? Say for instance you're order hasn't arrived yet and you want to play

There are some very plain ones in the files section of the Field of Glory entry on www.boargamegeek.com

If you google DBM or DBA paper figures you will probably find some better ones.

I have posted a number of URL's previously for paper counters. Best place to start is - http://freenet-homepage.de/dirk.schoenberger/ this has "top-down" views with a 10mm sort of look to them.

Many others are at http://www.juniorgeneral.org/ this site has nice side-on views.

Personally I am using the images from the first site mentioned as templates to produce my own "figures" (MS Paint, Photoshop, Paintshop pro , or in my case The Gimp on Linux are all useful editors).

Last night I knocked out FoG starter armies for Mid Republican Romans, Late RR's, Carthos and Gauls. (Elephant with a tower took ages).

I create 40mm X whatever bases of the images in the "paint" program and then create sheets of bases in Open Office Impress (same as power-point, that will do the same job). FoG starters are just over a sheet of A4 paper.

Then print out on ink-jet. (I am going through alot of green ink)

The next bit transforms these things into something useful. I buy v v cheap self adhesive vinyl floor tiles (2 quid for 6 in B&Q in UK). Peel off the backing and stick my sheet of bases to the tile. Then cut-out with a pair of large scissors - done. I have even produced terrain this way. You get a very solid product that has a bit on substance when you handle it.

Main use for me is quick kitchen table games with any army I fancy. They are also very portable, planning to take them on holiday next week so can play games with my son in evenings and do some of the battles in Phil Sabin's "Lost Battles" book.

I am about to release a second set of PaperArmies on www.wargamedownloads.com next week. Greg is out this week, but has recieved the files.


They will be CLASSIC INDIAN, PERSIAN (Both early and Late), GREEK HOPLITE, GALLIC (actually Celtic), and a re-done REPUBLICAN ROMAN (with Numedian allies this time).

A new Macedonian is just waiting for figure rebasing then that will be added to the group.

These are oversized printouts (equivlent to 4-bases), so when printing for FOG set print selection at 50% and you'll be right on. You can see an example of a top down view of one of the Classic Indian heavy chariots at my blog.
