Bolstering a BG still in combat

My disrupted BG is charged in the impact phase and wins it. It then fights in the melee phase and draws. In the JAP, I move a commander to join it, then I may roll to bolster it to steady. Is this correct? If the commander had been fighting in the front rank and survived, could he still bolster it?
Thanks, only read the bolstering section and skimmed the index, wonder if there's further I've missed ...keep doing that!

Yes - see the detailed turn sequence
and
Yes - because the general is with the BG it doesn't say he can't

I believe you can bolster a unit as long as it hasn't dropped a cohesion level in the same turn. Being in combat is irrelevant.

That is correct.

I thought we read last night that there was no bolstering when an enemy was within 6 MU's???
Second part: Does terrain affect that? ie. if the the enemy is on the other side of a hill or woods (out of sight), but within the 6 MU's can you bolster?
Thanks

That only applies to
Broken troops - Disrupted and Fragmented troops can be bolstered no matter how close the enemy is, even in close combat.

Terrain does not affect IIRC.
