Restricted Area movement

I’m sure someone else has already asked this but, I have a question about the restricted area movement. I understand that a unit is pinned if it is within 2MU and directly in front of an enemy unit. On page 74 at the bottom of the left hand column the rule states: “Make a move that ends further away from the enemy…” The picture at the bottom of page 74 shows unit A, which looks to be LH, appearing to wheeling and move backwards away from the HF unit. Is that correct? So can a units wheel/move backwards to get out of the restricted zone?

They can indeed - however, only skirmishers are going to be be able to move backwards as illustrated as all the rules on movement apply.

But some troops can turn 90 degrees and then move further away. This is an important dodge technique espeically if your foe is advancing at an angle.

The retirees still have to end their move in front of the enemy who projected the zone on them though.
