Bow* and Impact

Am I correct in assuming that a second rank of Bow* doesn't shoot at impact, as its not explicity listed, or is it allowed to shoot based on the "treaded as bow except shoots less bases" covering statement.

Thanks

Hiya

P 98 specifically names Bow* as a type unable to support shoot in impact phase

You are correct, they don't shoot at impact. Bow* is a separate capability from Bow so if it isn't listed it doesn't count.

Not quite on topic but my highlanders ( 5 units) were faced by 100 years war english. My bows fired one turn without too much enthusiasm on my part but disrupted two of the units facing them. Charged nedxt turn and smashed the english line following impact and melee. The bad news is they have been an absolute disaster in other games.

That's interesting. I am slowly building up a force of Highlanders. I wouldn't have expected them to be much cop against English archers. I would imagine the Highlanders are quite difficult to handle.

Against English archers a lot will depend on how much effect the English shooting has before combat because the Highlanders will be ++ at Impact (although the English have 50% more dice) and equal thereafter. If the English cannot disrupt the Highlanders they may well lose the Impact phase badly and drop a cohesion level or maybe 2

I played a game where highlanders charged uphill against my longbowmen. The highlanders were massacred, but the longbowmen pursued them off the hill and were ridden down by the Scottish knights. Them's the breaks.
