Reversed Images

Looking through the Rise of Rome book i noticed that some of the images of miniatures have been reversed. In particular the Roman Triari looks very sinister. I am guessing that the reversing of the images was done in order to provide a better graphic image.

Actually it is a conspiracy by the Ancient Illuminated Seers of Bavaria (Illuminati).

I noticed one in Storm of Arrows too.

Many years ago when I was doing lots of live action roleplaying I used to know several of the staff from Asgard miniatures who came along and played at Treasure Trap.

Asgard did a range of fantasy minatures and they decided to imortalise their characters in lead with three new figures, a wizard, a rogue and a cleric with kite shield. The review of these three figures in White Dwarf was very interesting as it reversed the image. The catch was that Pank (the cleric) was actually left handed and he carried his large shield on his right arm.......

The Triarius photo on page 7 could be argued to be holding his shield in his right hand and spear in his left. Now this isn't strictly true as the photo is depicting a kneeling Triarius and his shield is actually on neither arm but the arrangement of items is strange.

Normally in an army shields are on the left arm and weapons in the right. What you did if you were a left handed legionary I don't know. Probably just fought right handed because that is what everyone else did.

Didn't you get chucked in a river or burnt at the stake for being left handed?

I thought that being left handed was equated to being a witch. So (in this country anyway) traditionally you were chucked in a river or burnt at stake.

Hey, I don't make the rules :)

Roman shields are never "on the arm" anyway as they are all centre grip :D

Arrrr but they were the days of real live roleplaying - we spent many an hour in the Asgrad Minis shop in Nottingham and it was always a shock for people who tagged along to find people making proper chain mail in the corner :-)

Hammy - I still have those figures somewhere!
