In the Santa Hermandad list it states that "Santa Hermandad Nueva Spearmen" can be either pikes or offensive spear.
Under the total bases column it says 6-20 offensive spear, and 0-12 pikes.
Someone told me that in this type of listing if I take all the pikes I don't also have to take the spear.
Is that correct?

The way the lists work when the total bases column is split is that threse are restrictions on each sub type and the combined lines si in the SNHC list you must have at least 6 offensive spear but if you take 12 pike you can only have a maximum of 8 offensive spear as the combined types are limited to 20.
Looking at the knights line you can have 0-10 men at arms in total, they can all be undrilled but you can choose to have 4 of them as military orders and thus drilled.
