Elephants in Multi player

I fought a really good MP match tonight. I thought I would try out the elephants.

I supportted them with 2 Cohorts of Legionaries in the centre and 2 Heavy Cav as reserve and some filler to make up the army. It was a 5000points army (denari)

They Elephants were awsome in the first match up, but in the second the random map generator gave me a pretty rough terrain map and I got got in the rough going by a legionary Cohort supportrted by some light infantry.

The 3rd round was fought out on a much more open battlefield so the Elephants ran amok

I am tryiong to develope some tactics against the beasts but on the smaller XP armies you cannot afford anti elephant skills for the LI so am experimenting with other remedies.

Anyone else developed any tactics ? Or are you all keeping them secret

Lure them into rough terrain, or smack them in the flank. If they are tied up with skirmishers, than a thwack in the flank clobbers them for some reason- you're looking at instant kills all over. I had 3 elephants escape out of two units after they got simataneously hit in the flank. I dont know how good this is in multiplayer, but in single it works wonders. Just flank with light infantry, not cavalry

ive only played one game against elephants, never use them. Since ive only played the low denarii and xp games, the easiest thing for me is to force them into tough terrain, usually the woods around my flank, and ambush them with light infantry and skirmishers
