Charge distances and CMT's not to

Shock troops test not to charge in varying circumstances. In these circumstances their charge distance is taken as +2MU. Does this mean that MF shock troops 6MU, or HF shock 5MU, from troops they would normally charge must test not to, or just charge of their own free will once within 6/5MU with little chance of impact.

You've mixed up 2 different things
They test if enemy are in normal charge reach
This is the core rule
THEN
They do not test if the move might take MF out of terrain for example.
When considering when they don't have to charge you see if their max VMD would take them out of terrain if the target can evade
So the +2 MU only applies to deciding if they are an exception and allowed not to test

Not their
max but
any VMD - in some circumstances a max VMD would get them safely to a new terrain piece while a min VMD would leave them in the open, in this case they don't test.

Indeed I was doing shorthand rather than rewriting the whole rulebook
All other rules apply but my posting gives you the critical think you have mixed up

You do though need to differentiate between charge range (the reason to test) and charge move distance (the reason not to test) to avoid any confusion and add more words to the rules for us rules lawyers to pick at.

We are planning a special Rule Lawyers supplement full of apparently inconsistent concepts and ambiguous grammar especially for this niche market. I believe they will only be available from an underground shop in the West End. nd we may have John Cleese to provide the full 5 minute argument at a special FOG discount price.

"Was it the full half hour, or just the 5 minute argument you wanted?"
