BG breaks without taking cohesion test or losing bases??

Playing a teaching game at the club last night I managed to get one of my LH battle groups broken without losing a combat or being broken through or even having to take a cohesion test...

My LH broke an enemy skirmisher BG and were left free to roam. They came back and threatened the rear of an enemy LH BG. In the enemy move said LH turned and advanced to just short of my LH and threw javelins to no effect. A BG of LF also came across my rear.

I countered by moving a spear BG to intercept range on the LH so they couldn't charge me.

The LF then hit my LH in the rear! I lost a cohesion level because of the rear charge and the impact was a draw. In the melee with me having 6 dice at + aganst 3 I was relatively confident but concerned that I really needed to disrupt the LF. The melee was drawn and when it came to the JAP I had to break off but couldn't because the enemy LH were still behind me (although now out of charge reach of my spears). The failed break off dropped me to fragmented :(

In my turn there was nothing I could do to allow for a breakoff and the LH again failed to disrupt the LF so I broke without ever losing a melee.

There is a first time for everything.

You got it in one.

To be honest if I had wanted to be more competitive I could have easily avoided the problem but I was trying to make odd things happen to explain the rules.

I have a cracking photo and two associated but unrelated rules questions from last night BTW.
