a conforming question

We had a BG pile into the angle between 2 'kinked' BGs, it contacted one, but the 2 MU follow up did not get into the second one.
When the charging group conformed it would have had to move into the uncontacted group. How should this work out

we did it something like this

with the bases that could not fit pileing in behind

Two questions concerning your diagram. As it's drawn, doesn't the charging unit impinge on the restricted zone of the top unit? Is this legal?

Also, as drawn, is not the charging unit exposing it's flank to the top unit (the one not engaged)?

the charge is straight forward, the 3rd pic exposing the flank, is after conforming for melee
I dont think restricted zone counts for charging, and I would dearly have loved to hit that rear group of rubbish troops, but they were too far away

Its a good one that.

You only conform if you can do so.

You stay as you are and fight as if conformed. They conform to you next move in the movement phase.

I don't think you can conform legally. If you can't face the enemy in a legal formation then you fight in the formation and position you hit the enemy BG I believe. If the other BG leaves then you could conform. If that is true then how do you feed additional bases into the melee.

Or does your point of contact matter? Can the charging BG conform by shifting bases to its left so that it may all conform even if it has some bases now in overlap? But I thought there was a rule in there that says minimal movement to conform so I am tending more towards my first answer.

The Restricted Area only applies in the Manoeuvre Phase.

exactly

Its important that you can always charge through a RArea.

If your opponent is 'ard enough he can intercept to stop it.

This is crucial as a way to stop the silly notion that a psiloi in loin clothes can pin a cataphracts in full flight.

ok, so we chould have faught as in the impact phase, with the diaganol group moving to conform with the green group in the melee phase ?

Yep and then the greens could have moved bases over to cancel existing overlaps

OK, that's very clear, and makes perfect sense.
