I've decided to do my 1st medieval army in 15mm.
Thinking French at the moment , so any figure suggestions ?

Any do good value army packs ?

Who does nice figures ?

Date might be useful as the armour style changed a bit over the period the list covers.

1400 ish , a 100 years war army ?

I recently got some Mirliton figures - they really look very good. I can send some pictures if you want.

Vexilia provide Mirliton figures and have a website at www.vexillia.ltd.uk and choose Italian Condottieri.

They can really be used for French of any time, as long as you ignore the fact that some of them will have the wrong sword handles / helmets, etc, etc ... (waiting for Nik to go berserk)

1400 is slap bang in the middle of the period where the houndskull was very popular and knights wore jupons - the Mirliton figures are for the later alwhite period IIRC with many sallets, barbutes, etc.

Perfectly OK if you want to pitch the army at the end of the HYW and later.

try the Corvus belli range ( an English version of the website exist ) , very accurate for the period and with beautiful pics on the web site to decide what suits well for your Medieval French Army;

How about Museum - any good ?
I used to have a Mamluk army from them and it was pretty good.

Museum are IMO very variable.

Some of their ranges are good, some not so good and others plain wierd.

Their medievals are OK. They are one piece castings and on the small side.

One of their wierd ranges is their Campanians. I bought both cavalry and infantry from the same range and only when I got them home did I realise that the infantry were able to look eye to eye to the cavalry!! Both were decent figures but the foot were giants and the mounted midgets on ponies.

I dont know where you are from but the best value is probably the Old Glory range of figures. They cost about .30 USD per foot figure. And, I just saw this yesterday that they have FoG army packs. Medieval French for 90 USD.

Not sure about the UK but Essex in Australia have special deals on their English 100YW, I am presuming Essex miniatures UK are doing the same thing

Does anyone know whether the Old Glory or Corvus Belli figs mix well with Essex?

Corvus and Essex Can be mixed, both have a similar size, but Corvus make better figures than Essex.

I completely agree, Corvus Belli makes better figures than Essex for HYW French, in particularly for KN's (see barded horses,KN's armour and lance), even if I like very much Mirlinton ones.

Here's another vote for Corvus Belli. They are absolutely beautiful figures - very well sculpted, and much superior to Essex or Old Glory.

That said, Old Glory are probably the least expensive, so I guess it all depends on how you define "value".

Corvus Belli are outstanding figures while Old Glory are outstandingly cheap. If your going to spend the time to paint your figures well buy Corvus Belli, if your of the philosphy that painting is "work" then buy the Old Glory because it won't make much difference.

but can you prove this isn't the historical reality? maybe they only had ponies.

and another vote for corvus belli. i'm putting together a medieval army that's corvus foot, and mirliton mounted.
