BAR -- FORNOVO

I do not see any place in the Forum for Scenario Design -- Before Action Reports, in other words. Our group is looking forward to using FOG for doing big battle games, multi-player, large point size. We have done Fornovo with DBR a number of times, here is with the first edition:
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~beattie/fornovo99.html
and with DBM. We would like to try it as an FOG game, at the end of the game's time span.

This battle makes for a very interesting game because the armies are not parallel to each other, but orthogonal. The French are in a column of march, while the Italians are in line of battle, ready for the attack.

Our experience with FOG is nominal, and we have done no big games like this. Nevertheless, some in the group want to try such a big game to see how the rules would work.

Has anyone done this game yet? What advice can anyone give to creating scenarios for doing big games? Would FOG work on a game like this with lots of maneuver?

Is there a section on scenarios or will there be a book on historical scenarios?

Thanks much.

Hello, i think that FOG Bg maneuver sistem will allow you to play in a more rational way the troops turning to face the enemy than DBx.When playing don't forget the BGs giving rear support(Looks like the Italian player has to cross the river in column).
I'm willing to see the AARof the battle, well... i would like to play the battle, looks really fun :D .
Good luck:

So far FOG has worked really well for the reights we have played - far better than I have experienced in the past in fact.

Bob (and his dog) -

I wargame historical scenarios almost exclusively, and I think that Field of Glory works extraordinarily well in this regard. Although there are no scenario rules included in the current rule book or army supplements, I have found setting up and playing scenarios in FoG to be quite simple and very satisfying. All one needs is the historical text upon which the scenario is to be based and the appropriate army list supplement for translating the forces into FoG armies, and one is ready to begin. It is my understanding that a FoG campaign supplement is also planned for the future, and this should prove to be very helpful in setting up historically-based campaigns and scenarios.

I'll look forward to reading the results of your group's Fornovo battle scenario. :)

Cheers,
Scott

It was part of the objective to make it so.

Good to see you find this is the csae.

I am looking forward to refighting some historical games that we couldn't make work well in other rules.

I also play scenarios almost exclusively. The Fornovo scenario looks very interesting. Thanks for posting it.
