Hi all. Love this game. Great to see this type of thing growing on iPad.

I am unable to reliably start an online game via invite. I can do as many random matchmaking games as I wish. However, when trying to invite a friend who I know has the game, I am getting this message:

Well, that’s an odd one. What type of device and version of iOS? Can your friend invite you?

iPad 3 and iOS 6.0.1.

I will try and see if he can invite me and update when I have anything. If anyone figures it out too please let me know.

I'm receiving the exact same error. There is no issue at all when GameCenter finds me a random opponent, but when I try and invite a friend I get the same 'error communicating with the server' that Airdrop does.

Any ideas on what might be causing it?

Same question for you Tim: what version of iOS and what device?

Can you both show what the green felt looks like right before this?

I was thrilled to see a game of this caliber developed for iPad. Unfortunately, I have encountered this issue as well. One of my friends can invite me to play. When I try to invite him, it reaches the screen asking me to send the invitation, and then the matchmaking error appears. I have an iPad 3 with iOS 6.0.1.

Same thing for you: can you give a screen shot right before the error? This is not one we have seen here.

I had a similar problem. The issue might be that your friend isn't set up to allow game invites. Have your friend do this:

1. Go to GameCenter
2. Click 'me' at the bottom
3. Click the banner near the bottom that says "account: <email address>"
4. Click "View Account"
5. If "Game Invites" says "off", switch it to on.

Ah, that screen shot is actually the second alert, and it is indeed related to a friend who has turned off invites. This is now in the FAQ.

And, should have a better error message in the next build. Thanks for diagnosing this!

You're welcome. I had the exact same problem with a different iOS game which shall remain nameless but whose initials are "Le Havre". I blamed that game at the time, but when it happened with Bulge also I figured it must have been GC related. A little googling, and there you go.

Thanks for the game! It is pretty much exactly what I was hoping it would be when I kickstarted it. Looking forward to North Africa!
