Charging between buildings

We had a campaign battle that involved a city which we represented by a 4 by 4 group of buildings in base contact with each other (so close as defined on P77). The French infantry were trying to fight their way through the buildings opposed by Prussian infantry.

I believe to charge from one building to the adjacent building does not require a CMT for charging into a building (p44)? ( A CMT is required if the unit enters during the movement phase (p45).

However, the attacker might need to pass a CMT if they count as disordered, but do they ? P77 suggests it depends on whether the attackers start as occupying or defending in their building, but once they start moving which applies?

Have we missed anything else?

Very grateful for any guidance.

If you want to assault a building from an adjacent building you would have to be occupying it when you declare the assault. If defending you can't leave without a CMT and thats only during the movement phase. My take on it anyway. Defenders are in shooting positions so not likely able to form up for assault. Occupying troops are in some form of tactical so should be able to assault.

If the assaulting troops are disordered then they would need to pass a CMT to assault, same as any other assault. No other CMT is needed The CMT's on page 77 refer to moving from one building to another during the movement phase.

I don't think you can attempt an intercept when being assaulted in this situation.
Skirmishers would not have to evade if they were in the assaulted building.

My take on it anyway. Hope it helps

As this isn't strictly in the rules, you can make your own rules for it.

However:
My take would be that you'd need a CMT to assault - on the grounds that:
a) They must leave the building they are in (requiring a CMT).
or
b) The are moving directly from one building to another as described on page 77 (also requiring a CMT).
If the unit id disordered it would require 2nd CMT.
The assault cannot be intercepted, because any unit attempting to do so would require a CMT to intercept into the building.

However, you can make any rule that you want - as long as both players agree.
