I am happy to report P&S works in LINUX WINE

I took the plunge and bought the game last night. After downloading and installing the game, I found the same issue I had with Battle Accademy 2. The OPTIONS.TXT did not get generated. The likely cause was that my system does not support 24bit graphics. It supports 16 and 32 bit graphics though. Go figure. So the fix was to move the OPTIONS.TXT file from BA2 and drop it into the PIKEANDSHOTTE folder. These are located in My Games under My Documents. I did get an error about some MSG file missing but a link pointed me to the slitherine patch site. I was able to run the game and play through 3 of the 4 intro scenarios. On a side note, the Swedes kicked my behind in Scenario 3. That's a good thing really. AI is important!
Hope this post helps some of you LINUX fans out there.

That was a bug that did not come to light until the first time the game was patched (to v1.0.2), by which time of course it was too late to patch it for v1.0.2, so it occurred again on the v1.0.3 update. It won't happen with the next patch.

I am actually running with v1.03 of the patch. I ended up loading it manually. I figured it was a general software bug and not something hardware related.

Indeed, but the MSG missing message was generated by the previous version.
