So painfully slow!

Hi team. I'm loving the game and can't wait to make a heresy mod
However my problem right now is the game is running so slowly it's taking half an hour for a turn.
I have a 2.3GHz Intel quad core, GTX8800 and 8GB RAM. I also run dual monitors with Armageddon on the master screen at 24" 1080p
Let me know if there is anything I can supply to help with speeding the game up.
BTW I bought the game through steam.
Cheers
Mike

Have you checked the game movement speed in the game options menu?

I will kick myself if I've missed something like that
I'll check later thanks.

So I've checked and with the movement speed at the top or bottom of the scale the whole program still runs slow on my PC (Win 7).
So I tried on Parallels on a Mac air (Win 8.1) and it runs super fast.
So I have 2 questions... How can I speed it up on my PC (which is no slouch)? And can I move the save game files to my virtual PC so I can at least continue the campaign on another computer?

Even on an older card like the 8800 it should perform fine. My guess is either some issue with frame buffering (which you might be able to tweak in the nVidia control panel), or potentially the resolution in total is too high. Try using the advanced options to run in a window (if the window is the display size then it will act the same as being in fullscreen anyway) and try disabling shadows to see if that makes any difference.
Does your motherboard have any kind of CPU energy saving stuff? That can very much confuse games sometimes, making them run slower than they should because they think the CPU is running at a different speed (because it was at startup).
Cheers

No CPU energy saving features as its a gaming rig I try to make sure there is no throttling.
As for how to make it run in a window I couldn't find any advanced settings? And rez wise it's only a 24" 1080p screen so not crazy high rez. That said if you can point me how to run it in a window I would be more than happy to try this. I couldnt find a setting to do this in the NVIDIA control panel.
Can you help me with moving my campaign files so I can at least move my saved games to another computer?

Do you play with an open internet connection?
If yes, try to play without. It could help on a weak computer.
Savegames: located at Documents\My Games\Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon\save (for other languages similar)

Sorry - got confused between games! I don't think W40K has a windowed option yet. I would look at your nVidia control panel and make sure that the number of frames it can render ahead it set as low as possible.

Okay that's great thank you... How do I do that? What setting am I looking for?

Unfortunately it depends on the control panel version you have. It will be under advanced 3D settings, and be named something like 'frames to buffer' or 'forward frames' or somesuch. You could also try forcing vsync on.

Pip is referring to these two options on the Nvidia Control Panel:

Awesome thank you. And yes this has made the game much faster and even more enjoyable. I just got to the Marines in the campaign last night and being able to select marine units just made this game for me
